LINKEDIN & RESUME
Here I will show you some steps I took to update/professionalize my LinkedIn and Resume. As well as some steps you can take to get the most out of your LinkedIn account.
LinkedIn is an amazing way to gain connections with people all over the globe, but with this social networking power, it must be used professionally. Begin with a sharp picture, you in a nice shirt or you could go fancy and dress up. Either way shows you took the time to show possible connections your serious. Then you want to add a strong headline, describe yourself to the employer, and show them something they can see potential and trust that your there person. You want to keep your education and past/current jobs updated, so the connections can see who there working with and can paint a better picture of how they can best help you on your journey. Joining clubs or volunteering is also a smart way to buff up your account. Overall you want to show the best side of yourself on your account, this should be taken very seriously as potential hirers can view your page and get a quick read up on the type of worker you are.
RESUME
Here people can go at it in many different ways. The set-up of the resume should be about the same, a short headline followed by your education and work history. I'd then apply your volunteer history as well as clubs or programs you were apart of. Then finally any special certifications or specific classes would be useful for the job being applied for. Something that you could add to differentiate yourself is your top 5 strengths, if you have taken the Clifton strengths test adding these onto your resume can show what the hirer could potentially be getting out of you. Remember to be professional and continue to update your resume regularly, volunteering, or joining a club are potential ideas to buff up your resume, possibly joining different clubs you've thought about. Learn a new language, just remember to push yourself and stand out from the rest.
FUTURE OUTLOOK
These sources are a great way to sell yourself, but they become stale. You need to remember to constantly update your accounts, bringing the most up to date information will allow yourself to sell yourself better and show potential connections the overall growth as a student and employee. Try going through your pages about once or twice a month, allow yourself some time in between to grow as a person and gain new experiences. Remember as well that these sources are used to sell yourself, so personalize them to best fit who you are! Continue to reach out to new connections, and use those resources to expand your knowledge and gain connections to assist you in the future.
